Global Strategy in Action
Queensland Emory Drug Discovery Initiative
UQ and Emory University in the United States of America share a common desire to translate our research efforts into positive global transformation.
Based at UQ’s bioscience precinct in St Lucia, the University of Queensland Emory Drug Discovery Initiative (QEDDI) is a major initiative that aims to discover and develop new drugs to combat health issues including cancer, diabetes, inflammatory disorders and infectious diseases.
QEDDI will enhance existing partnerships with major pharmaceutical companies such as Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca and Pfizer, and enable more strategic partnerships in the future.

Australia Awards Papua New Guinea Fellowship
In mid-2015, UQ International Development and School of Political Science and International Studies facilitated a Graduate Certificate in Governance and Public Policy for 20 female public servants from Papua New Guinea (PNG).
The women were nominated for the program due to their potential as future leaders within the PNG Public Service. They spent an introductory week in Port Moresby, followed by five and a half weeks of intensive study at UQ with a further four months of remote and face-to-face workplace mentoring in PNG.
The program provided participants with the knowledge, skills and networks to design and implement improvements in the workplace and an advanced theoretical and practical understanding of 21st century governance.
Focus on student experience
Everything about UQ’s Veterinary Science course is unique. Each day you learn a whole new set of skills and feel joy knowing you are learning what you love most.
The course is demanding of both dedication and time. However, I feel joy in what I learn that it gives me a high amount of courage and determination to overcome every hardship thrown at me.
I’m currently based at UQ Gatton campus, the campus brings about a sense of peace and tranquillity that it melts away all your stress. The people here are never without a smile and have a positive outlook on everything."

ICTE-UQ’s decade-long partnership with The University of Hong Kong
The University’s Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education (ICTE-UQ) has been working collaboratively with The University of Hong Kong (HKU) for more than 14-years to deliver customised immersion teacher training programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Since 2002, ICTE-UQ has trained over 390 pre-service teachers who are about to commence their English language teaching careers in Hong Kong schools by providing them with a practical and hands-on overseas study experience.
During the program, students enhance their own English language skills, learn creative and innovative English language teaching methodologies and techniques, and are taught how to practically apply these techniques to their own teaching environments. They also develop an understanding of the Australian educational context, Australian culture and lifestyle through the language and cultural immersion experience. Students have the opportunity to participate in cultural activities, visit local state and private schools, and attend guest lectures.
This program, sponsored by the Government of Hong Kong, SAR China, enhances and supports the multi-faceted relationship between UQ and HKU, and makes a valuable contribution to the University’s international student mobility initiatives.
